ICRC: Can an association that defines itself as non-political renounce doing politics? Criticism of the ICRC’s neutrality in international humanitarian law

in Giuricivile,

The International Committee of the Red Cross, associated with four Nobel Peace Prize winners, is a unique and widely respected humanitarian actor. However, there were times in his past, where he was not as independent, neutral and impartial as is sometimes portrayed. Harshly criticized for his helpless attitude and his voluntary silence in the face of the suffering of the victims of deportations, concentration camps and extermination during the Second World War, he has raised numerous criticisms in the following years. Is this a “forgivable” mistake or a wake-up call against a private organization that claims to deal with states without being absorbed by them? Is it really possible for an association that defines itself as non-political to give up doing politics?
